podcasts are magical

so as per usual day i really need to clean my house and normally i would spend 6 hours procrastinating and 2 hours doing the actual work but surprisingly this wasn't the case.

i spent 30 minutes planning, and took a shower (ironic because i'm going to be cleaning dirty stuff) and then around 40 minutes going to 7-eleven just to get an expired snack bar (which i didn't know at the time) and 2 liters of water.

here is the list of things i needed to get done when i get back:

  • clean hallway
  • clean 2 bedrooms
  • clean the bathroom
  • clean the living room

now admittedly, this may seem like a short list and an easy job but i also needed to scrub the floors and do some crazy scraping and brushing in between. (not to admit that i literally need to throw 13 garbage bags because they were just left neatly packed in the front blocking the doorway of the unit because i got sick and couldnt get to them), additionally in order to throw the trash i NEED to walk like 500m (round-trip) just to dispose of it in the nearest garbage disposal because the HOA decided to move it farther than where it used to be (back then it was like just 100 meters) and i also live on the third floor. can you imagine??

estimating the round trip and the fact that i'm a timid person, i can probably carry around 2 garbage bags (one left and one right) per set and that amounts to...

~6.5 trips == ~10m per trip

(estimated time is probably an hour and more)

and that is tiring even if i try to speedwalk it, not to mention it is literally a goddamn incline to just throw the trash ugh.

normally, i just listen to music when it comes to these scenarios but my brain really cant last more than 30 minutes listening to random music and i need to keep my ass entertained doing a repetitive task and lo and behold- i discovered podcasts.

initially, i didn't want to even listen to any podcast because i find them sooooo boring but then there is this one called my first million which was really interesting for me at the time because i really am into entrepreneurship.

so i started listening, started my apple watch to keep track of the thing and holy shit- it just went by like its nothing! normally i feel really tired one trip in but.. i didn't even feel the pain! my brain was so focused on the podcast and how they were talking about investing in core stuff and the idiot index to the point i was able to finish 4 episodes while cleaning my whole apartment.

the best part is the fact that i learned a ton of stuff while doing a repetitive cleaning scrubbing task or while taking out the trash (which took 45m btw) and somehow managed to retain that information because my whole focus was on the podcast and not on the mindless zombie work!

so my piece of advice for people who just want to avoid the emotion of doing a bad chore or boring chore- find a podcast that interests you, and start working and listen to it

and trust me, you might not even realize but you've already done so much work after the podcast ended. (make sure to take breaks in between podcasts too! - they're a great pace setter)

*this may not work with everyone but like you might as well give it a shot.

anyways, happy listecleaning!
